As of March 7, 2026, the S&P 500 blended earnings growth rate for Q4 2025 stood at 14.2%, marking the fifth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth. Approximately 78% of companies have beaten EPS estimates, with the season characterized by strong AI-driven tech performance and a resilient consumer sector despite inflationary pressures.

Spotlight Earnings Analysis

Target (TGT) reported Q4 2025 revenue of $30.5 billion, down 1.5% year-over-year but in line with estimates, while adjusted EPS of $2.44 beat the $2.16 consensus. Despite a 2.5% decline in comparable sales, digital sales grew 1.9%, and the company provided optimistic 2026 guidance of 2% sales growth and EPS between $7.50 and $8.50. The stock jumped 3.6% on the news as investors cheered the return to growth and improved margins.

Costco (COST) delivered a strong Q2 2026 with revenue of $68.24 billion, up 9.1% year-over-year and beating the $67.9 billion estimate. Adjusted EPS came in at $4.58, surpassing the $4.55 consensus, driven by a 14% surge in membership fee income and 20.5% e-commerce growth. Although the stock initially dipped slightly due to high expectations, the robust 89.7% renewal rate and 7.4% comparable sales growth reinforced its position as a retail leader.

Broadcom (AVGO) announced record Q1 2026 revenue of $19.31 billion, a 29% year-over-year increase that beat the $19.1 billion estimate. Non-GAAP EPS of $2.05 exceeded the $2.03 forecast, fueled by AI semiconductor revenue which grew 106% to $8.4 billion. The company raised its Q2 revenue guidance to $22 billion, well above the $20.5 billion consensus, causing the stock to climb 4.2% as AI infrastructure demand continues to accelerate.

Salesforce (CRM) reported Q4 2026 revenue of $11.20 billion, up 12% year-over-year and slightly ahead of the $11.18 billion estimate. Adjusted EPS of $3.81 significantly beat the $3.04 consensus, reflecting aggressive cost-cutting and margin expansion. While the company initiated FY2027 revenue guidance of $45.8–$46.2 billion, the stock's reaction was tempered by a conservative long-term outlook, though it remained a cornerstone of the enterprise software sector.

Financial analysts presenting AI semiconductor revenue growth and retail sector earnings comparisons

Sector Earnings Themes

The dominant theme for the week was the divergence in retail and the acceleration of AI infrastructure. While traditional big-box retailers like Target faced comparable sales headwinds, they showed signs of recovery through digital growth and improved inventory management. In contrast, membership-based models like Costco continued to demonstrate exceptional resilience, benefiting from high renewal rates and consistent traffic.

In the technology sector, the AI spending frenzy remained the primary catalyst. Broadcom's results highlighted a massive shift toward AI-specific hardware, with AI revenue now making up a significant portion of total sales. This trend suggests that enterprise investment in AI is moving from experimentation to large-scale deployment, providing a strong tailwind for semiconductor and infrastructure providers.
